Engagement Ring colour options - The Sapphire Spectrum

The colour plays a central role in sapphire engagement rings. Many customers order a blue, pink, or yellow sapphire engagement ring and assume that they will get the exact colour as in the product image. The reality is that the natural gemstones come in all shades of the colour you choose. A sapphire with any desirable eye-catching colour should totally satisfy you when you have it on your finger and observe the shiny lustrous gemstone. But there are not so eye-catching colours as well. Thus, we encourage you to understand the sapphire colour spectrum and ask us for your desired colour. Also, during production, we usually get the customer's consent for the colours we choose.

The Blue Spectrum

Blue sapphires are the most popular sapphire variety. Blue sapphire comes with very dark or almost black shades and also very light blue tints. Some of these colours are specific to gemstone trade. Royal blue and cornflower blue are widely considered as the desirable colours for blue sapphires. But we believe that the best colour for you is the one you like the most.

The Pink Spectrum

Pink sapphires are ranges from a very light baby pink colour to hot pink and shift toward purplish tints. Some pink hues can be very luminous and others could be pale. We also have purple sapphire and they have pure purple hues.

The Yellow Spectrum

Yellow sapphires can have very vivid pure yellow colours but many of them have a slight golden or greenish tone in them. Some yellow sapphires can have a colour changing effect where they become more yellowish when exposed to the sun for a long period of time. Single-tone yellow sapphires are more desirable but very rare to find in large sizes.

White Sapphires

White sapphires are a good alternative to diamonds. You can get the best quality super crystal clean white sapphire for a fraction price of the same size diamond. They come in one colour, which is colourless.

How to specify colours from the spectrum charts?

Pick the colour cell you want to name and read the corresponding letter from the vertical axis of the picture and read the corresponding number on the horizontal axis. Please see the example in the colour sheets. Natural Gem Exchange's colour sheets can be ordered from us. Please contact support@brilliyond.com.au to order your colour sheets. (Natural Gem Exchange is a sister company of Brilliyond)

Different digital screens display the same colour differently. If you compare these colour spectrums in two different digital screens, for example on your computer screen and on your phone, you will see a big difference in how the colours appear. Even different computer monitors display the same colour differently. Therefore, it is important that we use the same device during communication. For example, if you use your iPhone and pick a colour, then we can use the same device and compare the colour with real gemstones. Since iPhones are widely used and come with similar graphics standards they are the best device for this colour comparison.

Can you find the exact colour?

Finding the exact colour could be challenging. We have access to more than 30K sapphire gemstones. In most cases, we can find a very closely matching sapphire. If not we can source them in about a couple of weeks time.
