What are the different kinds of gemstone certification?

  • Brief Reports

Inexpensive and shows the basic details about the gemstone like, type of stone, weight, size, shape, clarity, & color. This report does not show the treatments of the stone. But they will include heating treatments only for Sapphires and Ruby gemstones. This report is the size of a credit card in a plastic cover.

  • Brief Report with Photo

Similar to the brief report but contains a picture of the stone being certified. These reports are available at BGL, AIGS laboratories. They have restrictions as to what type of stones to evaluate like quartz which they do not evaluate.

  • Standard Reports

The most convenient report with a sealed envelope that contains the gemstone inside the report. With a plastic cover on the back to see the gemstone. This contains information about the size, color, measurement, and cut of the gemstone that is to be tested and also a comment section.  Treatments done are usually noted below the report.

  • Full Gemstone Report

A comprehensive report containing information about the type of stone, description, size, shape, weight, color, clarity, proportion, finish grade, refractive index, specific gravity, variety & trade name, any treatments, and a photo of the gemstone. Prices and time taken for certification

Prices may vary according to the type of report you want and may be priced from $35 up to $200. Time taken to get your gemstone certified may vary depending your choice of gemstone laboratory and where you’re from, if in a different country like Asia or America it may take from 15 days to one month. But normally, you can expect to get your gemstone certified in 2 to 15 days.
